Ruth first experiences with clay were when she was about three years old. She remembers playing in the mud for hours. From that point on she was captivated by it. There was something essentially spiritual about it. She is particularly interested in preparing food, it’s presentation and that shared experience with others. She finds it most satisfying to be able to make utilitarian pieces that are functional and also connect to the intimacy gained through their daily use. She particularly enjoys the process of construction and clay’s incredible willingness to transform itself into wonderful forms, and to mimic almost any material. Her inspirations come from all around her. The colors and patterns that she sees, the sounds she hears and events in the world, things she’s read, and the varied experiences in her life.
